The
ceramic element allows the high intensity heating (around 1650¡
at the burner surface) which is the secret of infra-red heat.
It consists of a grid pattern of 190 tiny openings per square
inch protruding through a roughhead burner surface, which serves
to concentrate and intensify the heat. Infra-red rays travel through
the air at the speed of light and do not convert to heat until
they strick or are absorbed by a solid object, such as an animal's
body or a concrete floor.
